Trusted Since 2004.

Looking for smart home automation in Atlanta, GA that actually works together? J&J Security Systems has spent over 20 years designing and installing connected security, locks, lighting, and automation for homes across metro Atlanta, not one-size-fits-all packages.

From smart locks and video doorbells to automated lighting and thermostat control, our local technicians design a system around how you actually use your home, then install, configure, and service it themselves.

We’re an A+-rated, BBB-accredited company based nearby in Snellville, GA, so a local technician, not a call center, answers when you call. Every installation comes with transparent, upfront pricing and a lifetime limited warranty.

Smart home automation ties into the rest of your protection: your security alarm system, security cameras, and outdoor lighting and cameras all become part of the same app. See the full range of home security systems in Atlanta or our home security pricing guide.

What We Install

Every device is professionally installed, connected to your IQ4 panel, and controlled from the Alarm.com app

Smart Locks & Keyless Entry

Yale, Kwikset and Schlage Z-Wave deadbolts that lock automatically when you arm the system. Give family, cleaners or contractors their own codes and see every unlock in the app.

Video Doorbells & Cameras

Alarm.com video doorbells and indoor/outdoor cameras with person detection, two-way talk and clips saved to the cloud. See who is at the door from anywhere.

Smart Lighting

Z-Wave switches, dimmers and plugs on schedules or triggered by events: lights on at sunset, off when you arm the system, on when a camera detects motion.

Thermostats & Climate

Alarm.com and Honeywell smart thermostats with geo-fencing and setback rules that cut cooling costs through Georgia summers without you touching a dial.

Garage, Water & Environmental

Garage door controllers, water leak sensors, freeze sensors and smoke/CO detectors that alert your phone and the monitoring center the moment something is wrong.

Pricing

Smart home automation is added on top of a monitored security system, so most Atlanta homeowners start with one of our home security packages (from $49.99/month with free installation) and add the automation pieces they want. Typical installed ranges:

  • Smart home automation service: about $5–$10 per month added to your monitoring plan for app control, scenes and rules
  • Smart lock, installed: $250–$400 per door
  • Video doorbell, installed: $150–$250
  • Smart thermostat, installed: $200–$300
  • Smart light switch or dimmer: $75–$125 each
  • Garage door controller: $100–$175

A typical starter setup (one smart lock, a video doorbell and a thermostat on top of a security package) lands between $600 and $950 in equipment. A whole-home build with lighting in several rooms and multiple locks usually runs $1,500–$3,000. Prices depend on your home’s wiring and the devices you choose, so we confirm an exact quote after a free walkthrough. For a deeper breakdown, read our 2026 Atlanta home security pricing guide.

Professional vs. DIY

Ring, SimpliSafe and Google Nest make good devices, and plenty of Atlanta homeowners start there. The gap shows up when you want everything to work as one system, and when something stops working.

  • One app vs. five. DIY setups usually mean a Ring app for the doorbell, a Nest app for the thermostat, a Kwikset app for the lock. A professionally installed Alarm.com system puts every device, plus your alarm and cameras, in one app with one login.
  • Rules that involve the alarm. “Lock the doors and turn off the lights when I arm the system” is only possible when the automation and the security panel are the same platform.
  • Reliable wiring and placement. Battery cameras drop offline; Wi-Fi locks drain batteries in weeks. We hardwire what should be hardwired, use Z-Wave for locks and switches so they don’t depend on Wi-Fi, and place devices where they actually work.
  • Professional monitoring. A DIY app notifies you. A monitored system dispatches police or fire when you can’t answer.
  • Someone to call. When a device drops off the network at 9 p.m., you call the Snellville technicians who installed it, not a chatbot.

Already have smart devices? Many Z-Wave locks, thermostats and switches can be joined to a new IQ4 panel, so you rarely have to start from zero.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What smart home devices can you install?

We install and integrate smart locks, video doorbells, lighting, thermostats, garage door control, and security cameras and alarms, all managed from a single mobile app.

Do I need an existing security system for smart home automation?

No. We can build a smart home automation system on its own, or integrate it with a new or existing J&J security system for combined control.

Does your system work with Alexa or Google Assistant?

Our smart home systems support voice control integration. We’ll walk you through what’s compatible with your preferred voice assistant during your consultation.

Do I need strong WiFi for smart home automation to work?

A reliable home network helps, and our technicians will assess your WiFi coverage during installation and recommend improvements if needed.

Can I control everything from one app?

Yes. Locks, lighting, thermostats, cameras, and alarms can all be managed from a single app once your system is installed.

How much does smart home automation cost?

Automation is typically $5–$10 per month on top of a monitored security plan (packages start at $49.99/month with free installation). Devices are priced individually and installed: smart locks $250–$400, video doorbells $150–$250, thermostats $200–$300, light switches $75–$125. A starter setup runs $600–$950 in equipment; a whole-home build $1,500–$3,000. We confirm exact pricing after a free walkthrough.

Which smart home brands do you install?

Our systems are built on the Qolsys IQ4 panel and the Alarm.com platform. For devices we install Yale, Kwikset and Schlage Z-Wave smart locks, Alarm.com video doorbells and cameras, Alarm.com and Honeywell smart thermostats, and Z-Wave lighting from Jasco/GE and Leviton. If you already own compatible Z-Wave devices, we can usually add them.

Can I keep my existing Ring or Nest devices?

Sometimes. Alarm.com integrates with a number of third-party devices, and most Z-Wave locks, thermostats and switches can be paired directly to the IQ4 panel. Wi-Fi-only devices tied to their own cloud (some Ring and Nest models) usually can’t join, so we’ll tell you during the consultation what carries over and what we recommend replacing.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Your IQ4 panel has a built-in cellular connection, so the alarm and monitoring keep working without Wi-Fi. Z-Wave locks, lights and thermostats also communicate directly with the panel, so schedules and arming rules still run. Camera live view and remote app control need the internet and resume when it does.

How long does a smart home installation take?

Most installations, including a security panel, locks, doorbell, thermostat and a few switches, are finished in a single visit of three to five hours. Larger whole-home lighting projects may take a full day. We configure the app and walk you through every scene before we leave.
